NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A new study recently found that more people are staying connected to their job even during their scheduled time off by checking their email and participating in online meetings.

Psychotherapist Rebecca Bullion told Nashville’s News 2 that by working while on vacation can actually create more stress than relaxation.

“If you’re always in your work mode then you’re always accessing some kind of stress response so you’re never really relaxed,” Bullion explained.

This technology induced stress can lead to high blood pressure, anxiety, headaches, acid reflux and ulcers.

The new survey also found that more bosses are emailing employees during their vacation and on weekends.

Michelle Putnam is visiting Music City from Virginia. She told Nashville’s News 2 she agrees with the new survey that says more employees are taking their work on the road with them.

“I guess you’re just tethered you hear go it off you check and you see there’s a notification and you look at it.”

According to experts, the best thing to do while on vacation is take a vacation from technology and power off.

“Ask your boss if it’s ok to turn your phone off,” Bullion said, adding, “It probably is more relaxing to operate by email by computer then it is on the phone.”
